Shockwave Therapy™

Included in our physical therapy services is Shockwave Therapy™. Shockwave Therapy™ utilizes short, intense energy waves that travel faster than the speed of sound. These energy waves stimulate the breakdown of scar tissue and fibroblast to encourage blood circulation and promote whole healing.

Learn more about this integrative therapy. It may be the answer to your pain that you have long awaited!

How Does Shockwave Therapy™ Work?

Shockwave Therapy™ increases blood circulation and initiates metabolic activity, causing an inflammatory response that promotes and stimulates healing. This added circulation will promote tissue healing in the injured site and help in resolving the pain.

Shockwave is an acoustic wave that carries high amounts of energy to painful areas and myoskeletal tissues. It helps mend subacute, subchronic, and chronic conditions. The high energy promotes regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons, and other soft tissues found in the body. Shockwaves are characterized by a jump in pressure. The kinetic energy of the projected stimulation, created by compressed air, first makes its way to a transmitter found at the end of the applicator in use and then into the tissue itself.

Shockwave helps to provide long-term pain relief over many affected areas. It has been known to address several conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfers elbow

  • Calcific tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Chronic tendonitis
  • Trigger point pain

Do you suffer from any of the above conditions? If so, you may be a good candidate for Shockwave Therapy™. Do not let nagging pain take over your life – let us help you find a solution today.

Any one of our skilled chiropractors or physical therapists can perform Shockwave Therapy™. Years of training and formal education have given them the expertise to not only provide this therapy, but also to tailor it to your specific needs. With our knowledge, you can be sure that you will be given the care and support you deserve.

Prior to your initial session, we will show you how our machine works and take you through various levels of passes to see what you can tolerate. We start small and gradually increase intensity as you adapt to the stimulation and scar tissue begins to break up.

We want you to be as relaxed as possible while undergoing Shockwave, so be sure to communicate with us as we go. All questions and concerns are welcome. Our practice is here to make sure that you receive comforting, careful care.

Is Shockwave Therapy™ Used Alone?

At Alta Vista Chiropractic & Massage Clinic, Shockwave Therapy™ is used as an adjunct modality. We use the shockwaves to further and solidify any progress that has already been made through other therapies. Shockwave can be used to intensify the results of chiropractic care and massage therapy as well as a majority of the other services we offer.
Does Shockwave Therapy™ Hurt?

Slight discomfort may be felt during your session, depending on the level of pain you are already experiencing in the area of focus. This therapy lasts no longer than five minutes from beginning to end, however, so most patients can easily tolerate this minimal discomfort.
Does this therapy require injections?

No, Shockwave Therapy™ does not involve injections of any nature. Instead, it relies on a handheld applicator that is gently applied to the problem area.
How long does it take Shockwave Therapy™ to work?

Frequency of care is determined by the severity of the injury at hand. Though, most people will see improvement after three months of care, it can take longer in chronic cases. Complete healing can take up to one year.

Please note that we do not use this technique by itself. We also employ several other health care methods that expedite the healing process.

What is the total cost of care?

Shockwave Therapy™ is an adjunct therapy that is included in your chiropractic care expenses. As we accept most major insurances for our chiropractic care services, this therapy is also likely to be covered by your insurance company.

Because all plans are different, we are not able to guarantee any certain amount of coverage. Be sure to contact your insurance provider for more specific details about your health plan.
