Chiropractic - What is it?

The most important part of fixing any problem is first knowing exactly what is wrong! With an accurate diagnosis and a determination of what caused the underlying problem, a chiropractor and formulate an appropriate treatment plan tailored to your specific condition. Pain is only a symptom indicating that something is wrong.

Using our understanding of biomechanics (body motion) chiropractors can treat such diverse conditions as lower back or leg pain (sciatica), neck pain, disc injuries, headaches, extremity pain (foot, hip, shoulder), carpal tunnel and more.

Accurate diagnosis starts with a thorough history of the problems, followed by a physical examination including orthopedic and neurological testing. X-rays may be taken if clinically warranted to help with the diagnosis. At this point the entire diagnosis, proposed treatment plan and prognosis for recovery is discussed with the patient.

Chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including spinal manipulation, physical therapies, acupuncture, stretching and exercises all aimed at restoring normal function, reducing pain and increasing range of motion. Chiropractic manipulation helps restore normal joint mechanics (movement) and has been scientifically proven to reduce pain, relax tense muscles and increase range of motion. Combined with other treatments and rehabilitation, chiropractic provides faster recovery and improved long term outcomes.
